So, since my last post on the bed, the weather has been on a roller coaster of temperatures and climates not allowing much time toward working on a tedious painting project.
You can't paint on a rainy day.
You can't paint on a windy day.
You can't paint on a humid day.
Well, we've had a bunch of all that nonsense. Add being 7 months pregnant to that and a husband out of town for a week and painting gets pushed right to the end of the project list.
So, yesterday we had a beautiful spring day (let me insert here that as I type this it's pouring and 48 degrees!!) and the weather was p-e-r-f-e-c-t for lightly sanding and painting coat #2. I was only able to get 1 side done, but, hey... that something, right?
Let me insert a little tip here that I didn't think about until after: (props to my dad for this little ditty)
-when doing a multiple piece project like a bed or a crib and it has pieces that cannot stand alone in a manner where you can paint both sides at once, nail (or screw) the pieces standing up to a piece of either 2"x4" or larger piece of wood.
Here's an old iphone pic of my Dad using this method for spray painting Nash's crib a few months ago:
*notice that he uses these old pieces of scrap wood to brace the sides and, when ready, he
can turn it whatever angle and finish all sides at once. BRILLIANT.
This is where I'd like to tell you I took a page from my own blog and did this when painting the bed. Nope. Not so much. Instead, I continue to torture myself painting at such an unbelievable pace that he'll be going off to college by the time I finish this bed.
I swear I'm doing this when I paint the second side of the bed (it's second coat) and the clear coat that will protect it from hurricane Nash.
Here's a few pics of what it looks like. The color is no bueno online... it's not purple. It's navy. I promise. Oh, and please excuse the trash and other Sanford & Sons crap in the background. I just got to taking the photos tonight.
